Tien Shan Astronomical Observatory

Founded in 1957 near Big Almaty Lake, 30 km south of Almaty. It belonged to the Sternberg Institute of Moscow University until the collapse of the USSR, and since 1994 to the Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute.
